Web Site Log Information When your Web browser requests information from our site, our Web server automatically writes information to a standard log file which records the date, time, and IP address from which your request came. Most of our Web pages also contain code to post information to a statistics gathering service called HitBox Professional. From this information, our Web log file analyzer and/or the HitBox server can sometimes, but not always, determine the domain and host name of the network provider to which you are connected, such as America Online, MSN, Netcom, etc. or, if your company operates the network, the domain name of your company. Web site log file information is generally insufficient to identify you individually, and we do not seek to do this. You are an "anonymous" user of our site, unless you choose to register on our Web site and log in when you visit. We use the aggregate information in our log files to determine usage and "popularity" of various parts of our Web site, so we can improve our site and make it more useful to you. On request by a Web server, your Web browser can write a small file called a "cookie," containing server-supplied data, to your hard disk, or read it back at a later time and send the data to the server. Without this feature or something similar, the Web server cannot tell which requests for Web pages came from a given user. Our Web server (and many others) requests a cookie when you register, log in, or visit a "protected" Web page that is available only to logged-in users. This cookie contains a unique number, called a session identifier, which allows our Web server to tell that a "protected" Web page request came from you after you logged in, and therefore it should honor the request. Our server requests another cookie in the course of posting information to the HitBox Professional statistics gathering service. This cookie is used to distinguish first-time visitors from returning visitors, and it normally remains on your hard disk -- but it contains no personal identifying information. You can set your Web browser to accept cookie requests automatically (the usual setting), notify you whenever a server requests a cookie, or deny all requests for cookies. If your Web browser denies a cookie request from our Web server, you can still visit all of the "public" pages on our site, but you won't be able to visit "protected" pages that require a user to be logged in. We may collect your email address when you (i) choose to send us an email message, (ii) choose to fill out and submit an online form with a question or comment, or (iii) choose to register for access to certain parts of our Web site. We use your email address to respond to your inquiry, and we may retain it to communicate with you in the future, to provide follow-up service. We may occasionally send you an email message, to announce a new product, ask for your feedback on some issue, invite you to participate in our beta testing program, and for similar purposes. In these messages, we always tell you, at the beginning of the message, how to remove yourself from our email list, automatically via return email. You can control whether you'll receive all, some, or none of these messages when you register, or when you update your account information on our Website. You can also tell us your preferences by sending us email, or calling, faxing, or writing to us. At present, we do not make your email address available to anyone outside our company.. However, in the future it's possible that we might decide to make available general lists of email addresses, to other reputable organizations whose products or services we believe our users would find interesting. If we ever do this, we will update this Web page to reflect our new policy. If you do not want us to share your email address with other companies or organizations, you can simply tell us by sending us email, or calling, faxing, or writing to us. We NEVER send "SPAM," i.e. unsolicited email to users who haven't specifically given us their email address, or else "opted in" to some public email list which is designed to allow them to receive information of special interest. If you supply us with your postal address, by ordering from us, filling out and submitting an online form with a question or comment, or registering for access to certain parts of our Website, you may receive periodic mailings from us with information on new products and services or upcoming events. At present, we mail our Frontlines newsletter to our general list, one to four times per year. If you do not wish to receive such mailings, please let us know by sending us email, or calling, faxing, or writing to us. Please be sure to provide us with your exact name and address, so we can find your information and remove it from our list.
