Using XLMiner in the Classroom

The educational version (used at at MIT's Sloan School, Bowling Green State Univ., Duke's Fuqua School, Georgetown's McDonough School, Indiana Univ., UCLA's Anderson School and elsewhere), is highly affordable - as little as $49 per student. XLMiner combines Frontline Systems' accurate and reliable algorithms (implemented as DLL's) with Excel's familiar interface and workspace, and includes facilities for sampling from and scoring to large databases. Works with Excel 2000 and later.

Options For Teaching with XLMiner

As an instructor, you have several very affordable options for using XLMiner in the classroom:

Option 1: Lab Site License

Site license for lab use by an entire class ($1299 per year, up to 60 users). This includes a license for you (the instructor) to install the program on your office, home and laptop computers.

For option 1, you can order by using a printable order form.

Note 1: If you do not need the license for a full year, a six-month license is available for $649 using the same ordering method above.

Note 2: After you purchase a site license for your institution, you can arrange for students to download copies to their computers at no extra charge. Please email support@solver.com to set up download arrangements for your students.

Option 2: Individual Student Purchase

Individual students may purchase their own 6 month licensed copy for just $49 each as long as at least ten copies are purchased as a minimum for your course.

Option 3: Adopt the Recommended Textbook for the Class

Adopt the book Data Mining for Business Intelligence: Concepts, Techniques and Applications in Microsoft Office Excel with XLMiner, by Shmueli, Patel and Bruce. When you do:

(a) XLMiner comes bundled at no charge with this book. To get a deskcopy of the book, call Wiley at (800) 225-5945 (choose option 3). Or, send an email to ccopy@wiley.com, mention your name, institution, course title and expected enrollment, address, phone number, email address, and book ISBN (0-470-08485-5).

(b) Book adopters can also purchase a six-month XLMiner license for classroom use for just $299. Simply call us at 775-831-0300 or email us at sales@solver.com and we can arrange a license for this multi-user version for you. Note though that this includes tech support for only one installation and is only for book adopters.

Note about installing in Labs

Option 1 and Option 3(b) are the only options that allow installation on a lab network.
