INCLINE VILLAGE, NV -- February 12, 2009 -- The Gurobi Solver Engine, a new optimization Solver for large-scale, computationally intensive linear mixed-integer programming (LP/MIP) models, is now available for free trial download.
"We're pleased to be the first to make the exciting new Gurobi Solver available," said Daniel Fylstra, President and CEO of Frontline Systems. "We invite users to download the software and see for themselves just how fast it really is."
Leading companies in many industries use optimization models to allocate scarce resources in a wide range of planning and operational decision-making applications. The highest-value industrial applications typically use linear mixed-integer programming (LP/MIP) models -- but these models can be extremely difficult to solve in acceptable time, even on the fastest modern computers.
Designed for Multi-Core Processors
The Gurobi Solver was developed by Robert Bixby, Zonghao Gu, and Edward Rothberg, three highly respected computational scientists and key former members of the development team of CPLEX, an LP/MIP Solver known for its high performance. Designed from the ground up for modern multi-core processors, the Gurobi Solver is always parallel -- in contrast to established Solvers, such as CPLEX and Xpress-MP, where "Parallel MIP" is an extra-cost add-on option.
In a recently published third-party benchmark study, the Gurobi Solver exhibited the fastest performance of all Solvers tested on a set of 75 well-known, challenging LP/MIP models. This is the first time in nearly a decade that a new LP/MIP Solver has outperformed the established leaders.
Integrated with Risk Solver Platform and Solver Platform SDK
Frontline Systems, a leading vendor of optimization software, has worked with Gurobi Optimization to produce the Gurobi Solver Engine, which works with Frontline's two primary tools for creating and solving optimization models: Risk Solver Platform and Solver Platform SDK. Risk Solver Platform is the market leader for optimization of models in Microsoft Excel; it is upward compatible from the Solver bundled with Excel, which Frontline Systems developed for Microsoft. Solver Platform SDK is a Software Development Kit that makes it easy to create optimization models in a programming language, with special support for C, C++, C#, Visual Basic, VB.NET, Java and MATLAB.
Pricing and Availability
The Gurobi Solver Engine is available now for 32-bit Windows, 64-bit Windows, 32-bit Linux and 64-bit Linux. Frontline Systems provides technical support, consulting assistance in model building, and updates and upgrades for the Gurobi Solver Engine. Pricing and licensing information is available online at Solver.com. Compared to the existing high prices for "Parallel MIP" versions of established LP/MIP Solvers, the Gurobi Solver Engine offers an extraordinary combination of performance and value.
