Installation
RASON Desktop consists of two components: the Visual Studio Code extension for model development and the RASON Runner for executing models within Microsoft Power BI and Excel. The components you need depend on your role.
Developers who create and export RASON models must install both the RASON Desktop extension and RASON Runner. Runtime license users, who only run models in Power BI or Excel, only need to install RASON Runner and do not need to use Visual Studio Code.
Developers
- Begin by installing the RASON Desktop extension in Visual Studio Code. This extension provides the interface for creating, editing, validating, and exporting RASON models. It is the primary tool used during model development and is required for exporting models into Power BI or Excel.
- Next, install RASONRunnerSetup.exe to add model execution capabilities in both Power BI and Excel. This adds the Solve option under External Tools in Power BI and the RASON tab in Excel. Once installed, users can run exported models directly within these applications without returning to Visual Studio Code.
Runtime License Users
- Install RASONRunnerSetup.exe (only) to add model execution capabilities in Power BI and/or Excel. This adds the Solve option under External Tools in Power BI and the RASON tab in Excel.
Together, these components enable a complete workflow: developers build and export models using the extension, and end users run and analyze those models directly in Power BI and/or Excel.
